Staple vs. Statement Pieces - How to Incorporate Both

How lovely is this grey striped dress? You know me, stripes are my ultimate weakness. Tobi is killing the stripes game right now.

Incorporating great staple pieces into your wardrobe will ultimately make your life a million times easier when you are trying to get dressed in the morning. Staple pieces should not be statement pieces. A staple is the item that ties the outfit together, and makes the entire look "complete".

For example, the denim jacket pictured above is a great staple piece for any wardrobe. A denim jacket adds a layer, which in result, adds interest and brings the outfit together as a whole. Not to mention, it isn't too bold and doesn't take away from other parts of the outfit, which means you can wear it over and over without looking like an "outfit repeater".

In addition, make sure that when you are incorporating staple pieces into a look, that there is also a statement piece to counteract it. In this look, I chose this wicker handbag. I love how the neutral color looked against the other colors in the outfit (grey, white, light blue) but loved even more that it added something a little extra to the outfit with its different texture. Statement pieces don't have to be over the top in order to effectively create a great outfit.

Here are some other great staple pieces you should consider adding to your wardrobe if you haven't already!:

  1. Leather Jacket (even imitation leather)
  2. Nude Heels
  3. Dark Wash Denim
  4. White V-Neck Tee
  5. Neutral Handbag
