Healthy Alternatives

Hi everyone!

I have been dying to share this sweater with you all. You know that I am so weak around turtleneck sweaters. It is actually the softest thing, I think I’ve worn it a million times already.

While that may be a bit of an exaggeration, I have worn it around the house, out shopping, to class, and to a birthday dinner. Super versatile.

It goes so well with all of my jeans and leggings, making it a new staple in my winter wardrobe!

Today’s post is a little different from the usual, so let me know how you like it.

Around holidays, and especially during the winter, it is super difficult to avoid all the sweets and treats we are tempted with. While it is nice to indulge sometimes, these cravings should not be given into all the time in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I’m no dietician, it’s just common sense!

Soooo…

Today I compiled a list of some popular cravings, and ways to indulge in those cravings in a healthier way.

Yes, you still get to eat delicious things when you want them!! No carrot sticks on this list.

1. Chips, processed crackers, microwave popcorn (salty snacks)

Instead: Make your own popcorn using coconut oil and pink Himalayan salt. This way you avoid the processed wheat, unwanted chemicals, and unhealthy fats. Simply grab a large pot and turn the heat up to “medium-high”. Add a large tablespoon of coconut oil and allow it to melt (or heat up if the oil is already in liquid form*). Pour 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels into the pot and cover with a lid. Shake the kernels around every few seconds by moving the pot back and forth before and while they are popping to prevent burning. Once popping has slowed down significantly, pour it into a large bowl. Sprinkle that pink salt on there and you’ve got yourself the best popcorn ever. Optional: melt another tablespoon of coconut oil and drizzle over the top of the popcorn.

* Coconut oil is either liquid or solid depending on the temperature of the area it is stored in. Both are completely fine!

2. Chocolate, chocolate, and moreeee chocolate!

You love it, I love it, we all love it. If you’re going to do it, switch to dark chocolate. It has way more health benefits than milk chocolate. More antioxidants, fiber, minerals, all with less sugar. It also pairs much better with red wine… just saying. Don’t believe me? –> Click here to see a rundown!

3. Ice Cream

A guilty pleasure for sure. There is no denying it! Alas, it is called a guilty pleasure because you know that it is providing you with zero health benefits and quite a few negative ones. If you’ve gotta satisfy the craving, opt for frozen yogurt instead. Yes, still a lot of sugar, but at least froyo has probiotics (the little bacteria that aid in digestion and the health of your tummy)! Most frozen yogurt places have a toppings bar, so you can choose your own toppings. If you’re feeling really strong, pile on the fruit instead of the candy! I’ll admit, I’m not always that strong, but you can’t win them all – am I right?

I hope this is helpful for you! Let me know if there are any cravings of yours that I didn’t touch on, I am happy to help! 🙂

Have a great day!

xo,

Anna
